HIT 236 - Quality Improvement & Risk Management This course covers the principles of quality assessment, clinical documentation improvement, utilization management, regulatory influences, data collection, risk monitoring, and performance improvement methodologies.
Prerequisite- Corequisite Prerequisite: HIT 101 Introduction to Health Information Systems
Credits: 3 Hours 2 Lecture Hours, 2 Laboratory Hours Course Profile Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe the development and regulatory influences on healthcare quality, utilization management, and risk management.
- Explain and apply Quality Improvement (QI) principles including workflow analysis and change management.
- Perform audits, collect performance data, analyze trends, and present findings visually.
- Monitor data to detect risks, adverse events, and clinical documentation (CDI) -related issues.
- Recognize the health information management role in performance indicator reporting and quality initiatives.
- Support patient navigation by understanding utilization review/management and reimbursement influences on access.
- Educate and mentor others regarding health information management and quality improvement principles.
- Apply conflict resolution skills in quality improvement and clinical documentation improvement scenarios.
- Develop implementable quality improvement tools and recommendations.
