ECE 202 - Teaching Young Children’s Literature This course examines techniques for selecting and integrating high-quality children’s literature in the preschool curriculum. Other topics include: the developmental benefits of utilizing high-quality children’s literature; identifying various genres and strategies for creating learning experiences that enhance motivation and encourage a lifelong passion for reading.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate practical knowledge and skill integrating high-quality children’s literature in the preschool curriculum.
- Identify various genres in young children’s literature.
- Describe the developmental benefits of incorporating high-quality children’s literature and related learning experiences in the preschool environment.
- Recognize the vital role that family engagement has in supporting young children’s literacy development.
- Discern developmentally appropriate techniques for observing and assessing the literature experience for young children.
- Determine ideal book selections based on temperament, culture as well as ages and stages of development.
