ENV 101 - Environmental Field Methods


Environmental Field Methods provides students an overview of field and laboratory methods utilized in Environmental Science and Sustainable Agriculture, including water and soil sampling, geographic information system (GIS) data collection, sampling methods, and other career skills in the environmental studies. Information literacy will also be addressed as it relates to environmental science topics. Campus and program orientation topics will also be covered in this course, including transfer and career planning and goal setting.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Articulate the various transfer degree programs, colleges, and careers related to Environmental Science and Studies
  2. Articulate various field and laboratory methods used to study environmental issues
  3. Locate information effectively using tools appropriate to the environmental sciences
  4. Evaluate information from a variety of sources with an awareness of authority, validity, bias, and origin
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination, whether from traditional sources or emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
