STM 105 - Natural Science Seminar


An orientation course designed for first semester students in the Liberal Arts Associate in Science program intending to transfer to a four-year school in a science program.  Students will gain an understanding of the community college and the transfer process.  Faculty will lead students in discussions on goal setting, time management and skills for success in Math and Science at the college level.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Navigate SUNY Broome’s physical campus, including the location of on campus resources, and online tools such as the Learning Management System and MyCollege; and interact with members of the campus community (including fellow students, faculty, librarians, and success coaches).
  2. Identify LAAS Program requirements and formulate an academic plan for their studies at SUNY Broome and potential transfer schools.
  3. Develop skills that will promote their academic success, including how to study, take notes, and manage their time.
  4. Locate information effectively using tools appropriate to their need and discipline.
  5. Evaluate information with an awareness of authority, validity, and bias.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination.
