BIT 280 - Office Administration


This course introduces students to modern administrative and office management practices. Emphasis is placed on planning and organizing office operations, professional communication, leadership skills, and the use of digital tools to support workplace productivity. Students develop problem-solving and decision-making skills through applied activities and real-world scenarios. A final collaborative project integrates course concepts and practical workplace applications.

Learning outcomes of the course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Apply basic concepts of administrative office management, including traditional and modern office management practices; management and leadership principles; motivation and problem-solving skills; and the management of office systems and workplace environmental and health considerations.
  2. Discuss concepts related to managing a diverse workforce, including recruiting, supervising, training, evaluating, and promoting personnel; analyzing office roles, compensation and benefits; and addressing workplace issues, ethics, and professional business etiquette.
  3. Identify the role of key administrative services and workplace technologies, including office space planning, ergonomics, office automation tools, and digital communication systems.
  4. Describe the function of administrative office systems, including workflow processes, office productivity strategies, and basic budgeting principles.
  5. A final collaborative project integrates course concepts and practical workplace applications.
