About SUNY Broome Community College


SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college supervised by the State University of New York, sponsored by the County of Broome, and governed by a Board of Trustees. It offers programs designed to prepare graduates for immediate employment (Associate in Applied Science degrees and Associate of Occupational Study) and for transfer to four-year colleges and universities (Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees). The College also sponsors a variety of certificates, short-term training programs, and non-credit community education courses.

College History

SUNY Broome Community College was chartered as a New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Binghamton in 1946. Throughout its history, the College has continuously evolved to meet the needs of the community, remaining dedicated to fostering educational opportunities for all. Campus Setting

Binghamton is centrally located in New York State, approximately 45 miles from Ithaca, 70 miles from Syracuse, and about 200 miles from both New York City and Philadelphia. Interstate highways I-81, I-88, as well as NY 17/I-86 pass through the city, providing convenient regional access.

Binghamton, Endicott, and Johnson City comprise the “Triple Cities”, an urban metropolitan area that offers cultural opportunities along with easily accessible outdoor recreational. Major regional employers include Avangrid/NYSEG, Broome County, Guthrie Hospital, Lockheed Martin, The Raymond Corporation, United Health Services, and Binghamton University, one of SUNY’s four University Centers, located a few miles from SUNY Broome.

SUNY Broome Community College’s campus is located approximately three miles north of Binghamton on Upper Front Street (Route 11) adjacent to Interstate 81. The campus includes 15 buildings with approximately 600,000 square feet of space supporting instructional, laboratory, administrative, and student service functions. Facilities include classrooms, specialized instructional laboratories, computer laboratories, and offices supporting the College’s academic programs and services. The campus is landscaped with a variety of trees and open green spaces, and four buildings face a central quadrangle.  Instructional programs are supported by classrooms, laboratories, equipment, and specialized facilities appropriate to the curriculum.

The College maintains a library that provides access to print and electronic collections, research assistance, and study space to support instruction and student learning. Student gathering spaces and student support areas are available across campus, including areas used for student activities and campus events. Institution-operated dining facilities provide food service for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

SUNY Broome’s Culinary & Event Center (CEC), located in downtown Binghamton, houses the College’s Hospitality programs and includes specialized instructional facilities such as teaching kitchens, a garde manger kitchen, bartending, beverage laboratories, a lecture hall, and event spaces used for instruction and community events. The historic building was originally funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1904 and served as the Binghamton Library for 96 years.

SUNY Broome Community College Foundation

SUNY Broome Community College Foundation is a self-supporting not-for-profit  501 (c) (3) corporation established in 1965 by BCC Trustees and community leaders. The Foundation’s primary purpose is to raise, invest, and administer private funds to benefit SUNY Broome Community College, its students, and its faculty. The Foundation’s top priority is to assist students with grants-in-aid and scholarships, but its charter also calls for assisting faculty and staff by helping fund their professional development and training, and providing the College with equipment, funding for special projects to improve campus facilities, and other items for which public funds are either insufficient or unavailable. The Foundation serves as the primary point of contact and conduit for all private gifts to the College. Gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

In addition to annual gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, students, business and industry, community friends, organizations and foundations, the Foundation has endowment and assets totaling nearly $54 million which support its programs and activities.

Alumni

The College’s Alumni Engagement program provides the link to over 50,000 alumni worldwide. News of the college and stories of our alumni, faculty, and students are disseminated through the semi-annual digital alumni newsletters, as well as in BROOME, our semi-annual alumni magazine. Digital editions of BROOME can be found online at: sunybroome.edu/magazine. The Alumni Engagement activities of the College are administered in partnership with the SUNY Broome Foundation.

SUNY Broome Community College Workforce Development and Continuing Education
