MAT 148 - Applied Technical Mathematics I This first course in intermediate algebra and trigonometry with technical applications. Topics include: operations in the real number system, expressions and functions, first-degree equations, properties of lines, systems of linear equations, trigonometric functions, geometry (perimeters, areas, volumes of common figures), polynomials, exponents, algebraic products and factoring, algebraic fractions and operations, rational expressions, radical expressions, quadratic equations, and graphs of functions.
Prerequisite- Corequisite Prerequisite: MAT 096 Elementary Algebra and Trigonometry or equivalent
Credits: 4 Hours 4 Class Hours Course Profile Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Perform mathematical operations, algebraic operations, and solve equations involving real numbers, proportions, linear functions, polynomials, rational functions and word problems.
- Recognize and use the Cartesian coordinate system to graph linear equations, systems of linear equations, quadratic functions, and rational functions.
- Identify geometric shapes and formulas for perimeter, area and volume using basic metric units, including scientific notation with dimensional analysis, and solve and analyze right triangles using trigonometric functions of angles less than 90 degrees.
