BIO 131 - Anatomy & Physiology I Normal structure (gross and microscopic) and function of the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. Emphasis on physiology in lectures and on anatomy in laboratory, stressing those aspects which have greatest relevance to the student’s curriculum.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify the location of body structures, using appropriate anatomical and directional terminology.
- Recognize specific examples to demonstrate how organ systems respond to maintain homeostasis.
- Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of cells and tissues.
- Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of skin and its derivatives.
- Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of the skeletal system, including its histology, the ossification process, and its role in maintaining calcium homeostasis.
- Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of the muscular system including the neural, electrochemical, and physical events of muscle contractions.
- Recognize the anatomical structures and explain the physiological functions of the nervous system including major divisions and component structures.
