ANT 111 - Introduction to Cultural Anthropology Introduction to the study of culture as the behavioral adaptation unique to human societies. Cultural characteristics shared by all humans and major variations found among specific groups. Explanations for rules of social interaction in common activities, the social functions of institutions, language in a culturally defined system of communication, modernization in our own and third world societies.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify the major theories used by cultural anthropologists.
- Identify the major research methods used by cultural anthropologists.
- Analyze social life using at least one of the major theories used by cultural anthropologists.
- Discuss issues related to social stratification and human/social diversity.
- Identify the consequences of racism in the United States at the individual, group, and systemic levels.
