BUS 131 - Personal Finance Guidelines for financial planning regarding long-term and short-term installments buying, i.e., homes, autos, etc., credit, insurances, taxes, savings, budgeting, and investments in real estate, stocks, bonds, IRA’s, mutual funds, money market accounts, etc.
Credits: 3 Hours 3 Class Hours Course Profile Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Set short, intermediate and long-term financial goals as part of a personal financial plan.
- Understand the basics of cash management including personal financial statements, budgeting, savings alternatives, income taxes and use of credit for home and consumer purchase.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main types of insurance and how to protect income and assets through the use of insurance.
- Demonstrate an understanding of stocks and bonds and how to invest to achieve personal financial goals.
- Plan for retirement and estate transfer.
