BIO 150 - General Microbiology An introduction to a basic understanding of the biology of microorganisms, with a focus on bacteria. Course topics include biochemistry, cell structure and function, metabolism, microbial ecology, microbial genetics, applied microbiology, microbial control, epidemiology, pathogenesis and microbial disease. Laboratory exercises reinforce those principles discussed in lecture.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic biology of microorganisms.
- Utilize classical microbiological methods to assess and analyze microbes in the laboratory.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of microbes in the welfare of humans, including the role of microorganisms in the environment, in food, and in disease.
- Prepare a presentation describing important pathogenic bacteria.
