ART 102 - History of Western Art I
An overview of Western Art and Architecture from the 25,000 B.C.E. to about 1350 C.E. Study of objects, sculptures, paintings, ceramics, and architecture with a focus on the social, religious, political, and philosophical influences that affected cultural development in the Ancient World. Course Profile
Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Broaden the student’s knowledge of how works of art and architecture reflect and relate to the natural and built environments.
- Have developed analytical approaches to discussing the cultures of the world, and their artistic creations. The students will use writing as a critical analysis tool for the interpretation of works of art.
- Have developed writing skills through a series of creative exercises in research and person expression. The goal of the writing will be to create a substantial research project that focuses on multiple aspects of a single work of art. The Writing Center in the Library is available to assist any student with the process of completing the assignments.
- Correctly identify a broad range of art production, and relate that art to the social, political, economic and philosophical context of its time.
