Mission

The mission of the Business Information Management program is to prepare students for careers that require a solid foundation in both business and information technology such as business application specialist, office administration, social media management, web design, new media design, and business analytics, through the use of innovative teaching methods, diverse modes of instruction, flexibility of course selections, and the inclusion of 21st century workplace skills.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Communicate effectively in business settings by exchanging ideas through correct and persuasive written statements, oral presentations, active listening, and the use of communication technologies.
  2. Collaborate by applying the following skills in a project environment:  teamwork, time management, creative problem solving, conflict resolution, diversity awareness, customer service, and community engagement.
  3. Acquire, process and manage information using core technology skills including file management, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, Web tools, information access, evaluation, and application.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate mastery of discipline-specific skills in one of the following areas of specialization:  business applications, business analytics, front-end website development and maintenance, social media management, new media design, or office administration.

Business Information Management, AAS, prepares students for careers that require a solid foundation in both business and information technology.  Students will plan a flexible program of study that includes the skills and knowledge required for employment and considers the students’ interests and abilities in those areas.  The focus of this degree is to educate students in tools and techniques necessary to acquire, process, and manage information as it relates to several areas of specialization including business applications, business analytics, front-end website development and maintenance, social media management, new media design, or office administration.  State-approved certificates are also available in Office Technology, Website Development and Management, and New Media Design.

Sequence of Courses 

This model is a two-year course schedule for students meeting all program requirements and deciding to pursue full-time study. Schedules will be designed for those requiring preparatory courses or those deciding to pursue part-time study.

  • Mathematics entrance score and Math background will determine math course placement.
  • Students should check with their advisors during the scheduling process to make sure courses are taken in proper sequence and any prerequisites have been met. Some flexibility is available as to when courses must be taken, but not all courses are offered every semester.
