Associate in Science Transfer Programs (Advised Career Pathways)

The aim of the Liberal Arts General Studies (LAGS) Program is to provide students with a broader range of curricular choices so that, under the guidance of faculty advisers, they can align their Associate degrees more closely with programs at senior institutions. The intent is to allow students with clear academic and/or career goals to structure their Associate degree programs so as to transfer as juniors to senior colleges, needing only four additional semesters to complete the baccalaureate degree. General Education courses totaling 30 to 34 credits are required of General Studies (AS) students, leaving a like number of elective credits. The total number of credits needed to fulfill the LAGS degree program credit hour requirement for students is 64.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Possess a strong foundation in the skills needed to be proficient in theater arts, whether it is as an actor/performer, or as a person involved in stage management, theater administration or technical theater.
  2. Demonstrate performance skills as actors in live drama and musical works from a wide array of dramatic literature by participating in the acting, or rehearsal and performance classes, and by participating in productions as a member of the Little Theater Players.
  3. Build a strong foundation in the computer technologies associated with the entertainment industry including those technologies that will become more utilized in the burgeoning world of the internet
  4. Incorporate a commitment to theater as a Liberal Art that helps to develop cultural, moral, civic, and social sensibilities for a fuller participation in the world at large.
  5. Develop the valuable assets of confidence, creativity, and communication skills through the study and practice of theater for non-majors.  Through examining the work of the major playwrights and artists, students’ historic, empathetic and artistic sensibilities are heightened.

Theater/Acting Transfer Path


Teacher Education Transfer Path Childhood


Apply to LAGS EDU (Grades 1 - 6)

The New York State Education Department requires that students seeking certification to teach Elementary School select and take a sequence of courses in an academic concentration/minor.  The concentration is intended to enhance the students’ academic backgrounds.  Individual transfer institutions select from the concentrations approved by the Board of Regents.  Check with the transfer institution before selecting a concentration.  Each institution is unique in its offerings.

SEQUENCE OF COURSES: This model is a two-year course schedule for students meeting all program requirements and deciding to pursue full-time study.  Schedules will be redesigned for those requiring preparatory courses or those deciding to pursue part-time study.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain the history, philosophy and ethics of early childhood and elementary education.
  2. Describe child development and learning theories relevant to young children and how they relate to children’s development and learning.
  3. Apply and evaluate developmentally appropriate practice in accordance with various ages and stages of development.
  4. Demonstrate a proficiency in various formal and informal assessment methods used to document children’s development (EX: anecdotals, checklists, running records, time samples, frequency counts, work samples).
  5. Interpret observations and evaluate children’s social, physical, literacy, intellectual, creative and emotional development for developmentally appropriate practice.
  6. Identify common developmental delays and four types of child abuse.
  7. Produce a comprehensive child study that demonstrates knowledge of child development with appropriate curriculum recommendations that are documented with actual observation recordings.
  8. Communicate a professional and positive disposition in all coursework related experiences.
  9. Recognize the ecological relationships that exist between family, community and curriculum as they relate to children’s development and learning.
  10. Evaluate and implement best practices when teaching young children.
  11. Communicate effectively.
  12. Collaborate constructively with peers.
  13. Demonstrate competence in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum in a supervised field experience.
  14. Act ethically and practice professionalism in all coursework related experiences.
  15. Classify and explore current issues in early childhood education and their impact on children, families and society.
