ADN 197 - Transitioning to the RN Role for LPNs and Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedics (AEMT-P) This transition course prepares Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Paramedics to understand the scope and role of the Registered Nurse. Course concepts and selected alterations focus on managing the care of patients experiencing acute and chronic illnesses and promoting health across the lifespan. Multiple sources of evidence are incorporated into the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to ensure safe and quality outcomes. Students will engage in active patient partnerships and interdisciplinary collaboration to focus on providing and managing patient care at the registered nurse level. Technology and information management tools are utilized to support safe processes of care.
Prerequisite- Corequisite Prerequisites: ADN 110 Intro to Professional Nursing, BIO 131 Anatomy & Physiology I, PSY 110 General Psychology, and ENG 110 College Writing I
Corequisites: BIO 132 Anatomy and Physiology II; PSY 210 Human Development

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Incorporate the image of nursing by articulating nursing knowledge and modeling the behaviors, values, skills, and attitudes of the profession.
- Provide compassionate nursing care to promote patient health, incorporating sensitivity to patient diversity, self-determination and integrity.
- Integrate inter-professional perspectives and patient/family preferences in the planning and implementation of nursing interventions to promote collaborative clinical decision making and safe patient outcomes.
- Incorporate principles of evidence-based practice into nursing care and patient education to promote patient wellness and foster patient engagement in care.
- Utilize technologies to support clinical decision-making, error prevention, and care coordination to provide safe, quality patient care.
- Demonstrate competency in drug dose calculation, and medication administration.
- Demonstrate understanding of pharmacological principles needed for safe medication administration.
