Intercollegiate Sports
The Athletics Department at SUNY Broome Community College serves as an integral part of the college. A well-rounded schedule of intercollegiate competition in various sports provides an environment in which each student-athlete can achieve maximum development, both physically and mentally. Students who participate in these sports benefit from the develop of leadership skills and emotional maturity – attributes that will assist them throughout their lives.
SUNY Broome Community College is one of over 500 member schools of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). It is also one of the 22 members of Region III. SUNY Broome Community College also participates in the Mid-State Athletic Conference.
SUNY Broome Community College currently offers NJCAA Division III competition in Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Softball, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis, and Volleyball. Esports and Cheerleading are also available for both men and women.
SUNY Broome Community College’s athletics teams have a rich tradition of success in two-year college competition. Dick Baldwin was a legend, who formerly coached the Men’s Basketball team for 40 years and recorded 879 victories. Over the years, our athletic teams have won numerous Regional and Conference Championships. In addition, the Women’s Soccer team has won three Division III National Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2016. Many of our student-athletes have received All-American and All-Region honors and have continued their pursuits at four-year colleges.
The athletic facilities here at SUNY Broome Community College consist of two gymnasiums, a weight room, fitness center, a dance room, athletic trainer’s room, baseball field, soccer field and six tennis courts. The Women’s Softball team plays at the BAGSAI Softball Complex, which is next to the college.
To participate in Intercollegiate sports teams at SUNY Broome Community College, students are required to meet NJCAA rules and academic eligibility requirements. Intramurals
Many of our students at SUNY Broome Community College enjoy trying out sports and physical activities of all kinds, some maybe for the first time. Our intramurals program is meant to offer an inviting and safe environment that encourages students to meet new people and have some fun. With this in mind, the Athletics and Student Activities coordinate intramural activities, such as open gym, as well as indoor soccer, basketball and volleyball, that are open to all students enrolled at SUNY Broome Community College. Clubs, Societies, and Organization
Involvement in campus clubs provides a chance to connect with other students who share a common interest while exercising skills important to lifelong learning that may or may not be covered in the classroom. Depending on a club’s purpose, its members may participate together in social events, overseas travel, local charity work, or other group activities. At SUNY Broome Community College, a wide array of clubs and organizations are available to all students. From the Art Club, Black Student Union, and Chess Club to the Japanese Animation Club and Speakers of the House, we have clubs for just about everyone.
Many organizations on campus are part of national organizations, either as student chapters of professional societies, service organizations, or honor societies. Club activity varies from year to year depending on student interest, with new clubs developing around new pursuits. The Student Assembly
The Student Assembly (SA) at SUNY Broome Community College represents the collective students’ voice on campus. In addition to providing input on club activities, social events, and programming, SA members discuss issues concerning campus life, review student-related campus policies, and sit alongside faculty and staff on college committees charged with making recommendations to College administration. SA representatives sit on the three other Shared Governance Bodies: College Assembly, the Council for Academic Issues, and the Council for Operational Issues. One SA member also serves as the Student Trustee on the SUNY Broome Community College Board of Trustees and votes on all items brought forth to that group. Performing and Fine Arts
Student Life at SUNY Broome means a variety of activities and performances going on weekly. Music, theater, comedy, dance, poetry readings, and contests, as well as lectures, seminars, and discussions are offered during the Common Hour.
The SUNY Broome Community College Theater Department offers productions throughout the year of classic and new plays. Students may participate in productions whether or not they are enrolled in formal course work.
All SUNY Broome Community College students are welcome in the Music Program’s ensembles! College Choir, String Ensemble, Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble, College Band and Chambers Singers and all accept new members each semester. Join the Music Association and find out about contemporary performing opportunities. Our ensembles perform throughout the year in the community and on campus in the Angelo Zuccolo Little Theatre.
Student Behavior
All individuals, including students, guest, and visitors, are responsible for their behavior while participating in the living and learning community of SUNY Broome Community College. Students are held responsible for their behavior that takes place both on and off the SUNY Broome Community College campus, and they are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and dignified manner.
The following behaviors are prohibited. A student at SUNY Broome Community College who engages in, attempts to engage in, or assists in the following behaviors is subject to student conduct action.
- Sexual assault, rape, any form of sexual violence, domestic violence and/or dating violence.
- All forms of harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying.
- Making unauthorized video or photographic images of a person in a location in which that person has a reasonable expectation of privacy.
- Stalking or engaging in an ongoing pattern of communication likely to cause injury, distress, or emotional or physical discomfort that serves no legitimate purpose, including the distribution of nude or sexually explicit video or photographic images of a person.
- Endangering, threatening, or causing physical harm to any person(s) or causing reasonable apprehension of such harm.
- Any behavior, actual or perceived, which demonstrates disrespect for others based on age, ancestry, color, religion, disability, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, race, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation or any other protected class of an individual or group of individuals. Commonly referred to as a Hate Crime.
- Possession of weapons, dangerous chemicals, explosives, or items that are replicas or have been altered to appear as a real weapon, such as a toy gun being painted black to appear as though it is an actual gun.
- Disorderly conduct.
- Hazing.
- Damaging property.
- Tampering with safety alarms or equipment, those devices in place for the protection of the residents or security of the building.
- Causing a fire, regardless of size or intent, on the SUNY Broome Community College campus without prior authorization.
- Theft, abuse, or unauthorized use of personal or public property, including presence on building roof areas/balconies, window ledges and other unauthorized areas, possession of stolen property, littering, vandalism, or unauthorized entrance to college facilities.
- Providing false identification, refusing to provide identification when requested by a SUNY Broome Community College official, or failure to render reasonable cooperation with SUNY Broome Community College staff.
- Possession, use, manufacture, sale, or distribution of any false, fraudulent, stolen, otherwise illegal, or ill-gotten currency, identification card, credit/debit (or similar) card, or document.
- Violation of maintenance regulations, including but not limited to physically altering a residential room or suite, it’s amenities, connections, or implements in any fashion other than that which is approved by the Department of Housing.
- Intentionally initiating or causing to be initiated any false report, warning or threat of fire, explosion, or other emergency.
- Drugs/Controlled Substances
- Possession, personal use, purchasing, or distribution of controlled substances, illegal drugs, or prescription drugs prescribed to another person; Salvia or other hallucinogenic; or possession of drug paraphernalia containing drug residue.
- Attendance at a gathering where illegal drugs have been used.
- If, in on-campus housing, marijuana (odor or material) is positively identified by trained law enforcement personnel and (a) no one opens the door for SUNY Broome Community College Public Safety Officer or Housing Staff or (b) no residents of that suite take responsibility for the behavior if found in a common/shared space, all residents of that living space will be held responsible for violating Code 17.2.
- Consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages, with the only exception being for individuals of the age 21 or older at a SUNY Broome Community College sponsored event.
- Computer and technology misuse.
- Failure to comply with the lawful directions of any college official, staff member, or student employee who is acting in performance of duties of position or is explicitly assuming responsibility on behalf of the College in the absence of a particular official.
- Abuse of the Conduct System, including the following:
- Failure to obey the summons of a Student Conduct Administrator College official.
- Falsification, distortion, or misrepresentation of information before a Student Conduct Administrator.
- Disruption or interference with the proceeding of a student conduct hearing.
- Attempting to discourage an individual’s proper participation in, or use of, the student conduct system.
- Attempting to influence the impartiality of a panel member prior to and/or during the course of the student conduct proceeding.
- Harassment and/or intimidation of a panel member, witness, or complainant prior to, during, or after a student conduct proceeding.
- Influencing or attempting to influence another person to commit an abuse of the student conduct system.
- Unauthorized gambling on campus or at organized student activities.
- Violation of the laws of the United States, the State of New York, Broome County, City of Binghamton, the Town of Dickinson, or any other civil jurisdiction.
- Violation of published SUNY Broome Community College regulations or policies.
- Knowingly acting or planning to act in concert to violate SUNY Broome Community College policy and/or knowingly allowing another person to violate SUNY Broome Community College policy without reporting to a college official (Joint Responsibility).
Students who have guests or visitors not affiliated with SUNY Broome Community College (1) must inform those guests or visitors of the rules and regulations, and (2) may be held accountable for their guest’s or visitor’s actions. In addition, students are accountable for the actions of others they deliberately incite to commit a violation of policy. Students may also be responsible for being aware of a policy violation and not reporting it to a SUNY Broome Community College staff member. Students are expected to contact SUNY Broome Community College staff, including Public Safety, should they be a witness to any of the above behaviors.

It is expected that every student abide by all SUNY Broome Community College policies, including but not limited to behavioral expectations stated in individual course syllabi.

Public Safety
SUNY Broome Community College is a safe campus which does its best to provide a secure environment where students can feel comfortable about learning without distraction.
Each year, Colleges and universities which receive state aid file campus crime statistics with the United States Department of Education. These statistics are available at http://ope. ed.gov/security/. In addition, The Advisory Committee on Public Safety will provide, upon request, all campus crime statistics as reported to the United States Department of Education. This information is available through the Chief of Public Safety.
