Mission

The mission of the Health Studies AAS degree is to prepare students for direct employment in healthcare. This degree allows students the ability to choose a healthcare path that aligns with high demand careers in healthcare:  Direct Patient Clinical Care, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Office Administration. The Direct Patient Clinical Care path will also allow a student to sit for a National Certification Exam to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, or ECG Technician through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). The EMT path will prepare students for the NYS DOH Basic EMT examination. Courses in this program will be a blend of traditional (in the classroom), online, HyFlex, and blended. This degree can also prepare student for competitive health programs.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Utilize professionalism in communication expected of a healthcare professional.
  2. Identify the concepts, principles and practices related to healthcare to help promote health and wellness.
  3. Utilize the principles of ethical and professional behavior that is required of a healthcare professional.
  4. Apply knowledge of cultural awareness as it relates to healthcare.
  5. Apply skills and knowledge relevant to and expected of a healthcare professional.
