PTA 213 W - Senior Seminar I


An exploration of the physical therapist assistant’s professional role in the testing and treatment of more complex neurological, orthopedic, medical and surgical conditions.  Consideration of psychosocial issues are also discussed.  This course is presented in a seminar format of 12 to 15 hours per week for the first 7 weeks of the semester.  SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  This course may be presented by guest lecturers, and sessions may be held off campus in various health care facilities depending upon the particular topic.  Significant preparation time outside of regular class hours is required.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

1.  Communicate verbally and nonverbally with patients, patients’ family and other health care workers in an effective, appropriate and capable manner.
2.  Recognize individual and cultural differences and respond appropriately in all aspects of physical therapy services.
3.  Interact professionally with other members of the health care team in patient care and non-patient care activities.
4.  Describe aspects of organizational planning and operation of the physical therapy service.

7.  Discuss the principles of evidenced based treatment.
8.  Using evidence based research techniques, complete the process of developing a presentation and paper on an assigned topic in the field of physical therapy.
