An overview of the growth and development of the child from conception to adolescence including cognitive, physical, social and psychological changes.  Major theories and research related to child development.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the methods psychologists use to explore psychological phenomena.
  2. Describe major concepts and theories within developmental psychology.
  3. Identify psychological theories and models of child development
  4. Discuss the role of biological, psychological, cognitive and social process in child development.
  5. Critically evaluate empirical evidence concerning child development.
  6. Apply child development concepts to further the development and welfare of children.
