Important musicians and musical styles of the Romantic Period. Emphasis on developments in piano literature, the symphony orchestra and opera. Listening to selected recordings and attendance at local concerts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe the many aspects of Romanticism and their effect on compositional choice and style.
- Identify the important movements and individual composers of the century and the contributions of each to stylistic progress.
- Identify representative compositions and develop the ability to hear similar characteristics in any music from the period.
