HIT 236 - Quality Improvement
A study of the components of quality assurance and improvement programs in healthcare; including quality assessment, utilization management, clinical documentation improvements, and risk management. Collection, organization and presentation of data will be included.

Course Profile
Learning Outcomes of the Course:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Discuss the development of quality review in the healthcare industry.
- Explain general quality improvement (QI) processes that include ongoing monitoring and evaluation (such as workflow and change management).
- Explain the importance of clinical documentation improvement (CDI) programs.
- Perform quality assessment audits, analyze the findings, and display findings using visual tools.
- Discuss the various components of utilization management including pre-admission, admission, and continued stay reviews.
- Identify the impact of policy on health care such as court decisions, federal regulations, and The Joint Commission standards that relate to quality of care and risk management.
- Identify the components of risk management related to health information management.
- Develop quality improvement tools with guidance for implementation in health information departments.
