BUS 118 - Business Law I


Law as an evolutionary and democratic process.  Topics include torts and criminal law, court structure, ethical issues in business, administrative law, law-of-contracts, legal principles of agency, employment rights and an introduction to business organizations including partnerships.

Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of legal terminology and basic common, tort, constitutional, criminal, administrative, and contract law.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of ethical issues in a business law context.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to identify factually simple contract issues using basic common law or UCC rules.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to explain the different legal forms for business organizations including partnerships.
  5. Demonstrate understanding to spot legal issues in business and consult an expert when necessary.
