BIO 155 - DNA and Biotechnology

This course covers the basics of DNA allowing the student to understand today's rapidly expanding field of biotechnology. Topics will include: the human genome project, genetic testing, gene therapy, DNA and crime, genetic engineering, agricultural and industrial applications of biotechnology.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

Describe the processes and methods used to manipulate living organisms or the substances and products from these organisms for medical, agricultural, and industrial purposes.
Describe the implications of biotechnology in such areas as gene therapy, medicine, agriculture, marine bilogy, and forensics.
