LRS 106 - College Success

The goal of this course is to help students to become more aware, active, and capable learners. Emphasis will be on a core of specific study strategies based on learning theory, such as reading academic texts, making notes from texts and lectures, managing study time effectively, and taking exams successfully. Students will apply these strategies to their own courses.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

Demonstrate an ability to navigate and use SUNYBROOME resources list.
Identify various theories of learning and demonstrate their application of it.
Be familiar with collegiate culture and comply with appropriate classroom protocol.
Acknowledge the importance of community building skills.
Identify and practice/apply/evaluate a variety of study strategies to enhance learning and success.
Create an academic plan that will include transfer and or career goals.
Demonstrate self-empowerment and overall self-efficacy.
Be aware of the Financial Aid/Academic Standards of Progress and the status of their continued eligibility.
Critically analyze, synthesize and evaluate the course content as it applies to their own individual life experiences.
