ART 114 - The History of Art and the Human FigureA chronological survey of the representation of the human body in the production of art from antiquity to the present. Emphasis is on the belief systems of specific cultures, and how those beliefs influence self-perception, and self-expression. Students will study basic human anatomy looking closely at the rise of anatomical science and its influence upon Renaissance and Baroque art. The current use and misuse of the human body in media is also explored. Format involves slide lecture, readings, and class discussion.
