ANT 111 - Introduction to Cultural AnthropologyCultural Anthropology studies culture as an adaptation to material conditions, unique to humans, that underpins all social forms and practices in human societies. It examines the cultural characteristics shared by all humans and major variations found among specific groups. It seeks to connect and explain the rules of social interaction in common activities (cultural norms) to their conceptual basis (values and symbols) and to understand how these are used to construct cultural realities that reflect the culture's worldview. Issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice are embedded in discussions of cultural forms (e.g., language, gender, politics, subsistence, religion, race).
